A Tea man was arrested in Nebraska on Sunday after allegedly attempting to run over a police officer in Sioux City, Iowa. Todd Bernard Gravning, 43, was being held on Monday in Sioux City, Neb. At 6:57 a.m. Sunday, five officers in Iowa received a report of a burglary from an employee on his way to work at Standard Bearings, a U-Haul dealer in Sioux City. Gravning was inside the building when the police cars surrounded it. “He was in the process of robbing the business,” said Lt. Mark Kirkpatrick of the Sioux City Police Department. Gravning drove a pickup truck – stolen earlier in South Dakota – through a garage door and towards the officers. One officer sustained minor injuries from the debris, Kirkpatrick said. He was apprehended later in South Sioux City and was being held Monday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property. Prosecutors in Iowa had yet to charge Gravning for the assault on the officer, but he is being held on a “must see judge” bond. “His bond is such that I don’t think he’ll be getting out,” said Terry Kearn, Director of Corrections for Dakota County, Neb. “We’ll hold him until Iowa gets their charges together.” Gravning caught the attention of several law enforcement agencies this spring. On April 1, officers with Lincoln County, Turner County, Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls S.W.A.T. team descended upon his home at 46374 273rd Street to serve a warrant for another stolen vehicle, a red Dodge Dakota. Officers suspected that the home was being used as a meth lab, said Sam Clemens, public information officer for the Sioux Falls Police Department. Authorities did not find Gravning at home and did not find a lab. They did find the vehicle in a barn and residue from methamphetamine and a sawed-off shotgun in the house. Gravning was found and arrested on April 10 in Sioux Falls. He was charged with simple assault and failure to appear. He was released on $800 bond that day. In Turner County, Gravning was charged on May 12 with grand theft for the possession of the stolen pickup, the shotgun and several power tools, but has yet to appear in court. In Lincoln County, officers have issued a warrant for third-degree burglary.
